Chop

A Disney MagicBand-inspired experience for retail.

Role: Founder, Product, UX Design, Engineering Management, Investor Relations

Product: Personalized customer experiences existed on the web for decades but were nonexistent in everyday retail. I saw an opportunity in fast casual, the fastest-growing food segment, to change that. Using beacon technology, Chop recognized customers the moment they walked in, offering personal greetings, a personalized menu, one-tap reorder, and skip the line. We deployed to ~30 locations in San Francisco.

The Ordering Experience

A streamlined ordering flow that let customers browse a personalized menu, customize items, and check out in seconds — designed to feel as fast as pointing at the counter.

The Ordering Experience

Purposeful Permission Design

Our first onboarding flow front-loaded permission dialogs, asking for location and notification access before users understood the value.

Purposeful Permission Design

After five iterations, we moved the notification ask inline on the order status screen — letting users opt in naturally after their first purchase.

Offline Experience Design

Users in busy restaurants often lost connectivity. We designed graceful degradation so orders were never lost.

Offline Experience Design

Contextual, Location-Aware Experience

Beacon technology let us recognize customers on arrival, enabling personal greetings and one-tap reorder.
